Behind the music

So, the day before yesterday, I had a good dose of TV. Okay, I'll admit, that sounded waaay better in my head.

What I'm trying to say is, I was spoiled for choice on Monday. Literally. There were at least three good TV shows worth watching. All pretty much around the same time - which sucked. Because I couldn't watch all at the same time.

It's no secret that I prefer documentaries over anything else on TV. If it's a music related documentary; even better!

So on Vuzu, there was a "documentary" on R. Kelly's Love Letter album. Basically it was him explaining the ideas behind the song titles, the album conceptualisation, the track selection, the writing process behind every song on the album. Pretty riveting stuff by all accounts. Good stuff.

While on MTVBase, they had a "day-in-the-life" type of thing on Trey Songz. Where they followed him around for some reason.
Needless to say, I chose to watch the R. Kelly special over the Trey Songz one. Simply because I saw that the Trey Songz one had multiple repeats coming up some time during this week. Today at 16:50, to be specific.

And on National Geographic, they had a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacturing of the latest Porsche. That I didn't watch. Though I really wanted to, just out of curiosity. I'm not much of a Porsche fan. Yeah. So... back to the music.

While switching between the two music specials (in-between ad-breaks obviously) I started thinking about something. About how little we know about our own local music artists. No one really knows the struggles they've gone through. What they're working on now. What actually goes into creating an album, or preparing for a performance, or running from pillar-to-post for interviews or anything along those lines.

Why is that? Who's to blame. Do we blame the artist managers and the artists themselves for not giving their fans a sneak peek behind the music?

I don't think such investments are made into our music industry. The only time you see the artist promote an album is months after it's been created and they're all cleaned up and smiling on TV behind dark shades talking about how their album caters for everyone. And how it's featured so-and-so from where and where. Talking about who they worked with and all that!

Imagine if the artists put out a video, even if it's on YouTube or Vimeo, of themselves actually working with so-and-so and making the music. Imagine the anticipation from the fans. Imagine the hype the video will create around the release of the album. Even if it's a staged "leak" of the footage, pictures, audio, or whatever.

I have R. Kelly's Love Letter album, and I can tell you one thing for sure, after watching those 30 minutes of TV, I felt I had a better understanding of the direction he was aiming for in that album. The "back to the old-school" element behind it. Only afterwards did I understand why there was a Michael Jackson-like song on the album - he wrote the song for MJ before his passing. That explains why I always skip that song.

Anyway. Why is it that all we get from local artists is a two minute interview about an up-coming album?

The two examples mentioned above aren't the only ones I've seen. There's a Nicki Minaj documentary that's always playing on MTV, there's a Drake one as well. Not to mention the famous "The Diary of..." series by MTV.

Why is MTV Base, which claims to be interested in promoting Africa to the world, not investing their resources into our own artists?

Why is it that so few of our local artists have websites or even bother interacting beyond the "I'll be performing at...." updates on Facebook and Twitter? Why not embrace the internet and completely abuse it as a communication tool to the fans?

I stumbled on behind the scenes pics of Kanye and Jay-Z's collaboration album pics the other day. Why aren't South Africans doing this?

Wake up! Give us a peek of what you get up to when there's no make-up artists involved. When there's no limited time to plug your album!

Shout-out to http://www.themakingof.co.za/ for being the local version of True Hollywood Story.

Inspirational breakups

I think the numer one motivator for any artist's success rests in their heart.

It's only after we get our hearts broken that we rise to greatness. I guess it has something to do with wanting to show the ex that you are much better without them, or that they were standing in the way of your greatness.

Success is always the best revenge anyway, so when artists like Will.I.Am, Kanye West and Usher wanted to get creative, they dug deep. Really deep. Deep to where the pieces of their broken hearts lay.

Look at the crazy success Usher got from the Confessions album (after his breakup from Chilli from TLC). The resounding success of Kanye's 808s & Heartbreaks album. The awesomeness that is Will.I.Am's Songs About Girls (after an 8-year long relatinship came to an end). All these albums were made big by the fact that these artists found inspiration from getting their hearts broken.

Heartbreak is so inspirational that most of these artists most popular songs are those about getting their hearts broken. Here's a short list, off the top of my head:

  • Usher - Burn (the whole Confessions album - both of them)
  • Kanye West - Love Lockdown
  • Kanye West - Heartless
  • Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreaks (the whole damn album!)
  • Drake - Karaoke
  • Will.I.Am - Heartbreaker (which is really one long apology)
  • Craig David - Walking Away
  • Beyonce - Irreplaceable
  • Lil Wayne ft Rick Ross - Single Again
  • Blackstreet - Don't Leave
  • Usher - Separated
  • Usher - Moving Mountains
  • Maxwell - Pretty Wings
  • Maxwell - BLACKsummer'snight (most of the songs on the album)
Also worth mentioning is that some songs on Drake's Thank Me Later album seem to have a simillar theme. He mentions an ex-girl in a couple songs, so I assume there's a story there. We'll only know once he opens up in some interview somewhere...

Chris Brown and Tyga's latest single, Deuces, is even more testament to this theory...
Bottom line: If you're looking for inspiration, motivation or a reason to start something - get heart-broken!

After-thought: Seems most of these "I'm sorry, take me back" songs are by male artists and the "go to hell, you bastard" songs are by the women. I'm not sure whether to :) or :'(

Oh well...

Deuces!
:p

Did I leave anybody out?

T(hree)-Pain

I'm convinced Mr Autotune has some sort of weird fascination with people's hands being opposite to the ground.

I noticed this after watching DJ Khaled's All I Do Is Win (video) for the umpteenth time on Channel O this morning.

I realised as I was frnatically throwing my hands in the air and singing along, that T-Pain has entertained this idea a couple times before.

T-Pain
He has mentioned the phrase "hand in the air" in all three of his latest music videos. This must be a world record of some sorts!

Case in point... I specifically remember him saying "Throw your hands in the air, home-girl take your motherf***ing shirt off" on his first single Take Your Shirt Off (video link); I then went on to remember his autotuned voice uttering the same words in another song called Reverse Cowgirl (video link), where he candidly says "Throw your hands in the air and go hee-haa, hee-haaaaaaa". Sounds weird when you read it, maybe as you were reading that, the tune played in your head. We can only hope...

Anyway, this is no big deal really, unless he's trying to expose some subculture of people who recklessly throw their hands in the air for no apparent reason. Either way, we loving the music Mr Pain.

I would also like to highlight the fact that I love the DJ Khaled video. And this has nothing to do with the fact that the killa hook & chorus keep my arms fit and in good working condition. I love the two cars in the background: The matte black Chevy Camaro and it's white counterpart.
If for any reason, you feel the need to reward me for this awesome praise of your lyrical abilities, I will gladly accept either one of the two cars. (I've attached pictures for your convenience!)

Thanking you in advance.

The Journey in Pursuit Happiness

Hello world!

Happiness: What is it? How does one attain it and hold on to it?

So many questions. Only one answer: Nobody knows.

But I do know this - happiness is all everywhere you are. Wherever you find yourself, in any position. In any situation, you always have a choice: what are you gonna make of this situation? Are you gonna be happy or concentrate on the negative.

Over the past 7 days; I have experienced happiness in it's truest form.

This time last week, I was headed back to Pretoria from having spent the whole day in the presence of people who really bring out the best in me. My best friend Fe, her boyfriend, my girlfriend and I were at Haartebeesport Dam for some Summer gig that had the craziest line-up you can ever imagine. The very best (and worst) musical talent (and lack thereof) South Africa has to offer.

Granted the night ended waaay too early for us for some inexplicable reasons; but instead of dwelling on that. Remembering that day isn't clouded by that tiny bit of detail. Not because we are acting like it never happened. But because if we chose to focus our attention on the negative, it would definately mess up our recollection of that fantastic (this is my first time using this word in any form of speech, so you know it was just too damn good - look) night.

Again a few days later, the Saturday, had a super chilled picnic with my girlfriend then later the whole gang went out again on a night of ass-kickery in the form of ten-pin bowling. I say ass-kickery with a big grin on my face because I was at the very top of my game. Playing like an endorsement deal was on the line. :)

I was (and still am) having the time of my life. And you can't blame me. I had just had a damn good four weeks at work, and was off (and still am) work for another four weeks. What more could I possibly ask for!? Don't answer that.

Today after spending a good two whole days indoors (internetting) , I decided to go into town just to see what I can get myself.

I got myself a copy of Musiq Soulchild's latest album - OnMyRadio. Playing it right now actually.

Anyway. On my way back from town. I decided to take a stroll in the rain while kicking some killa remixes to some songs playing in my head. Including the new Kid Cudi song titled "Pursuit of Happiness" (may not be new, but rather new to me!)

I may not have found complete happiness, but if I continue on this path; the journey won't be too long.

Halaala!

**edit: almost forgot. Got me these Smoking Bud Rasta in-earphones from Skullcandy:

Before I die

I refuse to die before [in no particular order]:
  1. Attending the Carnival in Rio de Janiero - Brazil

What more could I possibly ask for? Happy people, music, singing, dancing and not to mention the hot hot hot weather!!!

  2. Chasing cheese down a hill - Gloucester, England
Might sound stupid to you, especially if you're a girl, but nothing beats anything that provides the rare opportunity to potentially break your neck in pursuit of... ...wait for it... a round of Double Gloucester Cheese down an extremely steep and uneven hill!!! YEAH!!!

  3. Rocking it at the Cape Town Jazz Festival - Cape Town
Again, a killa combination: music, a good time, some 1000+ people having a good time and some nice outdoorsy weather! Aint nothing better!

  4. Rollercoaster-ing at Ratanga Junction - Cape Town

    1 reason: the adrenalin rush!

  5. Bungee jumping off of something - The World

    see reason on #4

  6. Chilin' on the ocean in Mozambique

Beach + hot weather + Portuguese food = happiness

  7. Going to the Umhlanga Reed Dance in Swaziland

Two birds with one stone, (1) I'll be in Swaziland and (2) I'll be witnessing another history chapter added to the King Mswati book - him marrying yet another wife. As if 14 isn't enough. pshh!!

  8. The Zulu Reed Dance in KwaZulu Natal

I've always wanted to witness this. :)

  9. Going to one of the Channel-O patries in Swaziland

I hear they're the best parties to go to this side of the Vaal, I wanna be part of the temporary migration come December!

  10. Being part of La Tomatina - Valencia, Spain

The potential risk of getting hit in the eye with a tomato has always appealed to me. The mess of it all. I likes it!!

**Looks like this is gonna be one of those lists I need to update as I go along.
Hopefully I'll update it, unlike this one...

;)

This sucks

hellogoodbye
I lost the one song I haven't heard in ages...

One of my very many favourite songs... "Here In Your Arms" by hellogoodbye.

Can you believe the only reason I noticed this song was missing was after I was singing along to Van Hunt's "Hello, Goodbye"?? Sad really.

Only afterwards did I realise I hadn't heard the hellogoodbye (it's lowercase on purpose) one in ages...

Shame. Sad sad day for me then...

:'(

Think I should get me this DVD to soothe my aching heart -> OMG HGB DVD ROTFL.

Monster: "I ain't a monster"

I have been trying my best to avoid writing about this because it's almost on every other blog...

But to come out and tell the world how "not a monster" you are... is just...

Anyway...

In case you've been living under a rock for the past few months... here's the deal:

Actor, singer and songwriter Chris Brown, has released a video on the ever popular "Broadcast Yourself" webste YouTube claiming that he's gonna release a new album and ending with the words "I ain't a monster". And his friend Bow Wow adding with... "belie'e [read: believe] that".

Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with broadcasting yourself and telling your "real fans" that you're not a monster. But let's take a sneak peak at what you've done so far to prove that you're "not a monster" shall we...?
Dear Mr Not-A-Monster, Please don't sue me for this. This is stuff that's been fed to me by the media, seeing as I wasn't there.
Ok, let's continue...

1. You had "an altercation" with your girlfriend.
2. You allegedly beat her up.
2.1. You beat a woman up like she was a grown-ass man.
3. You're trying to open a case against the cops

Now let's break it down...

1. You allegedly had an "altercation" with your girlfriend

Nothing wrong with this. I'm pretty sure many of people out there have had and are possibly gonna continue to have "altercations" with their partners.
I guess it's just one of those things that are included in the relationship package. The down side of them if you will...

I'm using the word "altercation" because that's what the media has labeled it.

I, for one, can safely say I have never had an "altercation" that has led to what you did next...

2. You allegedly beat her up

I have no idea what made you decide to escalate the alleged "altercation" to a full on assault. But you did.

Which led to this:

Now, I'm no expert when it comes to analysing pics or anything like that. But this pretty much looks like how you'd beat up a guy who was trying to take your life.

So...

2.1. You allegedly beat a woman up like she was a grown-ass man

There's absolutely nothing on the face of this planet that she could've possibly done to deserve being beat up like this. Nothing. Whatever the reason may have been at the time. Whatever made you decide to lay your hands on her, is never a reason to beat a woman like that.

I don't care who you are, there's absolutely no reason.

If you feel like you can't handle the situation, do the next logical thing... walk away. Yes, you can be tempted to "knock some sense into her", but don't. It's not necessary. If you can't talk it out, shut-up and walk away.

3. You're trying to open a case against the cops for leaking evidence

Hmm... let's see... how about you DON'T beat women up? Let's start there. How about you start by NOT providing a need for evidence? Won't that work out better for you??

I'm jut saying here. *shoulder shrug*

Now that we've got that out of the way...

If that were my daughter or any of the women in my life I would be sharing court dates with the Monster. I promise, I wouldn't hold back. I don't understand how anyone should be raising their hand to a woman in the first place.

I know there are situations that can raise temperatures so high that you end up doing things out of anger, (trust me) but what this guy did is totally inexcusable.

I hope he goes to jail. I don't hope he gets raped or anything like that (though that's not really up my hoping or not) but I just hope he goes there, and gets beaten up a couple of times. That's all. Even if it's for weeks on end. Just don't kill him, I like his music... :)

Reality sucks

Breaking news!

Apparently the last two finalists on idols are gonna share the winnings (i.e. the car, the recording contact, etc.). [read more about it here]

But that's not what I wanna talk about. I wanna tackle the whole issue surrounding the state of international reality TV shows syndicated in SA.

I think we're a real disgrace when it comes to these kind of things. I think we're too concerned with not being hated that we're losing credibility by the owners of the TV shows we're meant to be promoting on our side. I mean it's now two TV shows that are genetically a "one winner takes it all" affair, and yet we've managed once again to fuck the system up.

When The Apprentice - my most favourite reality show - was gonna have a local version. I was flipping excited. I was anxious to see what the locally successful people would bring to the table in terms of quality entertainment. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed by the very first boardroom meeting where Mr Tokyo Sexwale (former politicial cum businessman) had to fire someone... and instead of the generic "you're fired!!!" made famous by The Donald he goes and rapes it with... wait for it... "you're dismissed". Notice how there's no exclamation point? That's because he says it so apologetically, the person beind "dismissed" isn't sure if they're off the show or they have to go stand outside.

Then at the end of the season, where Mr Sexwale has to appoint someone who's gonna join his Mvelaphanda empire (crappy name, I know) he doesn't choose someONE as etched into our TV watching brains. He goes and decides to rearrange the whole thing and hires two apprentices instead (the two seated ladies).

Why you ask?

Because he didn't want the other woman (yes, they're both women) to throw her stiletto at him or something. Basically he decides to rewrite the script for some unknown reason.

Now there's Idols, where they messed up and then make up for it by having two winners. Why?? Why should there be two winners when the guy beat the girl by over 200 000 votes. Makes no sense! How is that validate there being two winners basing it on a tie. I don't know what school the auditors went to, but I'm pretty sure 1.1 million votes is less than 1.3 million. I'm just saying.

Moral of the story... What's the point of even voting when they're gonna give the final two the title?

This is some bullshit.

I wont be surprised if, like The Apprentice, we never get Idols again.

I never watched the damn thing, but my reputation as a South African is at stake here. We should stop being so damn diplomatic about things. If you're a loser, then you're a loser. Tough. You'll get over it.

A blessed design...

Hey, been a while since I last posted something worth reading here...

And as usual it's simply because I've been spending more time on my designs.

So one of the first 'works' I worked on as soon as I got back from my visit 700KMs away. Without ever opening Photoshop or any other image editing software out there. I worked on this...

Goapele
[This pic is also here: Behance deviantArt Flickr My website ]

Took me about thirty minutes to work on the initial look. Then around an hour fiddling with the background. Not sure of the colours to use, then settled on a simple black and white (b&w) image. I don't know why. I just have some sort of weird perversion when it comes to b&w pictures and graphics. So I settled on B&W.

I actually cut out one other pic while I was working on this image. But I've decided to finish it at a later stage.

Anyway, hope you didn't miss me too much. Feast your eyes on that in the mean time. (till I finish my other designs...)

Oh, wait, before I go...

The person in the pic is singer Goapele. A South African native living in America.

She's a friend (I don't wanna use the word contact, sounds less personal. lol) of mine on most social networking websites I'm on. I've been a fan since Closer came out while I was still dreaming to be "closer to my dreams". Now I am, and I just wanted to hook something up for her, to show some appreciation.

I first featured a mini-work of her on my first website... //click here / Didn't really do much to the pic except enhance it.

I sent her a message on Twitter asking her what she thought of the design, and without mincing her words, she basically said...

That's all the blessing I needed. And, NO I DIDN'T PHOTOSHOP THAT REPLY!

Thanx Goap!

(yeah, we on nickname basis now. I just gave her that. "Goap! That's what's up!" it rhymes, I know. ©PaperCut 2009-forever!)

Check her out on the following sites:

Peace & love!

1 Wish

me + my music

Before even clicking on 'Create post' I had already written the final words of this post. Is that normal?

Anyways...

1 Wish.

I wish I lived in a country where we didn't have to wait for international artists to grace our shores before we can actually enjoy some good music. I wish we had more local shows you'd sell your sister to go watch. I wish South Africa was a priority when they plan their "World Tours". I wish we got more music in our stores music stores, that we didn't have to wait six weeks to get 340ml's latest album from the supplier or another branch. I wish there was a music store that sells strictly international music, and by international I don't mean American. For some reason, when someone mentions 'international', people immediately think American. I wish they didn't. I wish they didn't have a corner that's marked 'Other' in the music store close to where I live. I get my musc from that corner. I wish I had a broader scope to choose from apart from all this commercialised music. I wish South African musicians would stop making crappy music and expect us to buy it simply because they said 'support local music' at the end of their textbook interviews. I wish we had less commercialised music. House music in particular. Not all of us want commercialised music. Some of us just want music. I wish South African musicians would stop trying to be "international". No one's buying your CD in the US. I don't even think expats are buying your CD. We're the ones subjected to your endless yappings about being "niggas who aint ready fo yo shit". Guess what? If that's the shit we're supposed to be ready for, I'm never gonna be ready. I wish we had musicians who spoke truth to power. Not these people who are just trying to make a quick buck. Why do we have to hold on to every last word spoken by the likes of Tupac, Erykah Badu, Common, Talib Kweli, AD, Slum Village, MosDef, and The Roots? Why can't we have our own messages in song? For some reason, our music only focuses on one portion of music; the partying side of things. We can't party all the time. What happened to the messages. Messages to uplift us.

How come no one in South Africa makes real music anymore? Music is being made
simply because the contract you signed said you have to keep releasing albums for the next 3 years. Even if your content is the same, just as long as you release something. I wish I had more music. I wish I had an iPod. I wish I had better earphones.

All I wish for is music.

Music speaks to me. Music relaxes me. Music excites me. Music fills the spaces in between. Music makes me wanna get up and dance. Music makes me wanna sit down and listen. Music allows me to be. Music comforts me. Music is my friend. Music can never turn on me. Music will never talk about me behind my back. Music is honest. Music is real. Music is escapism in it's truest form. Music is life. I can't imagine a day without music.

Even though they claim that some music makes people kill people. Music doesn't kill people; people kill people! How come you've never heard of someone having done anything positive and it being blamed on music? People have had tons of babies off Barry White's music. That's all you'll ever hear. That people made babies to his music. In South Africa, gospel (after traditional music) is the most popular type of music, the most produced and the most purchased (also the most repetitive, but that's a story for a nother day). And yet, no one does a good thing and blames it on the music.

My one wish is music.

Development gets Arrested in SA!

One of the greatest HipHop bands (How do you spell HipHop? Is it Hip-Hop or Hip Hop? anyway) to ever put sound on wax, is set to perform in South Africa this month.

Oh hell yes!!

Arrested Development is coming to the Mother Land (they're also going to be in the Mother City) for the second time only in 14 years. (Do the math, last time they were here was in '94 after Mandela's inauguration.) And somewhere in between there, having faught a losing battle with a popular TV series for having used a name simillar to theirs, it's good to see them not having lost their heads.

Having gone from 19 members to 8 kinda makes me wonder if their music is still the same. I guess having 4 new members team up with 4 original members (especially Speech, the lead vocalist) definately strikes a clear balance between the old architects of HipHop and the new kids on the block.

With classics like Everyday People, Mr Windal and Revolution! it promises to be a surefire head-banger for the conscious rhythm and poetry fan. Staying true to the original art form, it'll be rewarding to see people with something worthwhile performing live. After seeing the likes of Snoop and JaRule on SA stages. It's time for something fresh. It's time for the revolution.

SA gets Maxwell'd

Living in Gauteng sucks sometimes.

Turns out Maxwell is coming to SA, and the best thing about it all is that he'll be performing in my hometown - Bloemfontein - this Friday.

What sucks the most is that I wont be able to go see him. I'll be stuck here in the Big Smoke instead of going home and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see one of my favourite neo-soul singers perfom live!

I know most when most artists come to SA they rarely ever go anywhere else except the 3 main cities ie. Joburg, Cape Town & Durban. But I'm never interested in seeing 50 Cent or Snoop Dogg or any of those people that have made coming here a habit. They're not relevant to my interests. Maxwell, on the other hand, is.

So, if anyone happens to be at MACUFE this Friday, please take some pics and email them my way. the address is: papercut [at] brainstormdesigns [dot] co [dot] za.

I like, where you sleep

This song brings a stupid grin to my face everytime I hear it. It's playng as I type this on teh radio. People in the office are wondering why I'm grinning like a stupid fool.

It's so damn sweet. The video also kicks serious ass.

Hellogoodbye - "Here (In Your Arms)"

When you are the one, the one that lies close to me.
Whispers "Hello, I've
missed you quite terribly."
I fell in love, in love with you
suddenly.
That there's no place else I could be but here in your arms.

I like,
Where you sleep,
When you sleep,
Next to me.
I like,
Where you sleep;
Here.

Cause our lips,
Can touch,
And our cheeks,
Can brush.
Our lips,
Can touch;
Here

They were featured on The Real Life - Austin (killa show by the way). When they had to hook something up for SXSW.

Speaking of which, there's just something about reality TV shows. I thinks it's the fascination with peeking into strangers' lives and getting to know how people live their daily lives that appeals to me. I've been a fan of Survivor, The Amazing Race, The X Effect, The Apprentice, and that other one where a bunch of guys fight the natives, [...I forget what it's called now] you name it, I've watched it. Probably. Be reasonable in your naming.

I'm loving Miami Ink at the moment. Considering my undying fascination with tattoos. It really fils that tatt gap. :P

I even got my aunt hooked onto Big Brother Africa (the first one), and now everyime they make a new one, she let's me know. How cool is that. I got my eldest cousin hooked on Flava of Love. He also couldn't get enough of it. At the end of every episode, he would ask when the next episode was. Good stuff. I'm a bad influence. LOL!

I love it (reality TV and the song... bonus if they have the song in a reality TV show... i.e. The Real Life!!).

I can die a happy man.

"How come you don't call me anymore?"

I believe it was the greatest funkadelic soul singer of all time; mister Prince Nelson himself. Or rather The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, also known as Symbol; who once uttered the words "How come you don't call me anymore?"

This famous phrase, was made even more famous, by the teenage singing sensation Ms. Alicia Keys. Who engraved the words even deeper into the minds of her adoring fans the world over. Now it seems, this popular phrase has become the nightmare soundtrack to my life lately.

Let me break this down...

You know how you are all single and stuff, and you spend hours on the phone chatting to your other single friends about how misserable le single life is? Well, that was the story of my life for quite some months. Granted we had some good times, got drunk as hell, went out clubbing, got drunk out of our minds, got to kick some serious knowledge (which didn't always include weed).

The great thing about this whole thing is that I got to spend some serious time with quality people. Talked about everything most of the time, and other times didn't even need to talk at all.We were on the same wave length most of the time.

It's only at these times that you really get to know people for who they really are. Not just the occasional SMS, I mean seriously getting to know this person with whom you've built this so-called friendship. Knowing what makes them tick, what they are really passionate about.

You know somebody's a true friend when they find your shoulder comforting enough for them let all inhibitions go and just cry if they feel like it.This is basically what most of my friendships are founded on. I also think the fact that almost all my friends are girls, this makes my bond with them even that much more special.

Then comes a time where neither of you have enough time in your 24hr day to call the other and check what they up to. Nevermind hooking up. Just a simple "hello".

I've gotta admit, I'm definately guilty of this flaw.

I tend to just not call people. Especially when I'm in a relationship or whatever.

Hey, at least I'm willing to admit this /in public even/

You call someone and the first thing they ask is "how come you haven't been calling?" I mean WTF! I could ask you the same thing.

It's only after you stop calling people that you actually realise that you've been making more calls than they ever have. But then again it's only when you stop seeing people that you realise how tight you all were, when you accidentally stumble upon that that made it onto the internet where you were all so out of it; you don't even remember when the picture was taken. But you remember how happy you were on that particular day!

House music, is my friend

House music!!

I'm a crazy House music fanatic.

I find that I'm more creative when listening to some serious House music.

I'm talking the likes of Quentin Harris, Ben Westbeech, Little Luie Vega, Osunlade, Four to the Floor, DJ Fresh, Fred Everything, Kings of Tomorrow, Afro Medusa, Blue six, Miguel Migs, Euphonik, Phonique, Blaze, Paul Johnson, Harrison Crump, Studio Apartment, Junior Jack, Franc Roger, Magic Number, Sam & Gigi, Dennis Ferrer, Tortured Soul, Pepe Braddock... the list goes on and on and on and on and on.

And my favourite ladies of house: Lisa Shaw, Barbara Tucker, Sia, Aya, Ultra Nate...

I know it has a lot to do with the tempo of the music, which is basically makes the waves in the brain go faster, therefore guaranteeing the creative juices flow non-stop. But I just can't help it. It does wonders for me though...

Oh, did I mention Quentin Harris and Tortured Soul. Oh ya, I did. Just wanted to make sure.

Damn!

I can basically wake up in the morning and play house music. I don't know, somehow it sets the tone for the rest of my day.

When I woke up this morning I played Champagne by Four to the Floor. Crazy tune. Needless to say my day's been pretty great.

Out!

(When I got to the end of this post, Kerri Chandler - So Let The Wind Come Down was playing!)

eish!

I'm never drinking again!

Ever muttered those wonderful four words after a long night of excessive drinking???

You know you have....

Anywayz, last night I went clubbing with a few of my friends with our sole mission being to see this guy...DJ Fresh

And right now, I'm not feeling very well... My head is pounding...

Funny enough while you're drinking, the last thing you think about is how you gonna feel the next day. You don't even get the signs of how bad your hangover's gonna be...

anywayz.... I'm out... I think I need some sleep or something....
